The Director's Eye — Developing the Ability to Evaluate

Quick Check

1. In your domain, what makes something excellent? Write down three specific qualities of good work. Are these standards you've articulated before, or are you making them explicit for the first time?

2. Think of a piece of work you evaluated recently and deemed insufficient. Could you explain why to someone who knew nothing about the domain? What would you have to elaborate?

3. Find an example of excellent work in your field — something you genuinely admire. What specifically makes it excellent? Study it. What would happen if you used that work as your standard?
