The Right Skepticism Level
Not every AI component in every tool is a significant risk. A spell-checker that uses a cloud API is different from an AI system that processes your financial documents. The question is proportionality: the higher the sensitivity of the data the tool handles, the more carefully you should evaluate any AI component it includes.
The audit is about awareness. You don't need to disable every AI feature in every tool. You do need to know what features exist, where your data is going, and whether you've made an informed choice to allow that data sharing.
Some data is genuinely low-sensitivity. Some data sharing is genuinely low-risk. The point is making those judgments from a position of knowledge rather than discovery.
