Supply Chain Risk: The AI in Your AI

Browser Extensions and AI

Browser extensions that add AI capabilities are particularly worth careful evaluation. These extensions have access to everything you see in your browser — every page you visit, every form you fill, every logged-in session, every email you read in your web client, every search you perform.

This access can include sensitive information you haven't consciously considered sharing with an AI provider. Login credentials. Financial information. Medical or legal documents you're reading. Private communications. If the browser extension sends all of this activity to a cloud AI provider, you're sharing significantly more data than you may have realized.

Evaluate browser-based AI extensions with particular care, and restrict access to what the extension genuinely needs. Some browser extensions allow you to granularly control which sites they can access — use this feature to limit the extension to specific domains rather than "all sites."
