Lesson 1: The Automation Opportunity

The "Brilliant Friend" Analogy

Imagine you had a brilliant friend who was obsessively detail-oriented. You could tell them: "When I get an email with an invoice, I want you to pull out the dollar amount, the vendor name, and the date, then add it to my spreadsheet under 'Expenses.'"

Your friend wouldn't need to understand invoicing. Wouldn't need to judge whether it's a good invoice. Just follow the steps you described, perfectly, every single time, never getting tired, never forgetting a field, never asking for context.

That's what automation does.

Automation isn't smart. It's not trying to replace you. It's reliable. It follows a procedure. It never gets bored or distracted. And once you describe the procedure once, it does it forever without you thinking about it again.
