The Data You Should Never Put Into AI Tools

Medical and Health Information

Protected health information (PHI) is subject to legal protections in most jurisdictions. Set that aside for a moment. Medically, health information is deeply personal. The retention of health information in any external system carries long-term risk. Someone's medical history, medication list, or diagnosis — once it's in someone else's system, you've lost control of it. There is no scenario where pasting patient records, medical history, or health details into ChatGPT is appropriate.

If you work in healthcare or handle health information professionally, this is non-negotiable. If you're an individual handling your own medical information, the same principle applies. Do not use cloud AI to help process health data that isn't yours, and be extremely cautious about using it for your own.
